Frequently asked questions.
What is your turn-around time?
I will always try to give you the most efficient turn-around I can. Letterpress printing takes time, and I am the only one working here at SuperMutt. With all this in mind, generally, from start to finish an average custom printing job takes about 3 weeks. That gives time for design, estimates, ordering supplies, and of course, printing. This is subject to change depending on things like quantity, number of colors, shipping time, and specialty items that need to be ordered. I am happy to rush a job for a fee of 20% of the total cost of the job.
What IS letterpress printing?
Letterpress printing is a form of relief printmaking that historically involves hand-setting individual letters of different typefaces and image blocks together to make arrangements that can then be printed thousands of times. Modern letterpress has expanded these horizons, allowing printers and designers to translate nearly anything to a letterpress-able format.
How is it different than other printing?
Letterpress printing pushes ink into paper, creating a tactile impression. Each color is printed one at a time, so photographic images are not well-suited for the medium (but not impossible) and illustrative and text-based design are perfect!
Do you do graphic design, too?
I am a printer first, but have dipped my toes (and fingers) into the graphic design side of the pool. I am very happy to design specifically with a letterpress printed product in mind, and have an illustration background as well, but I will be very honest about my limitations for any specific request.
